A collection of analogue photography and drawings made during a month long trip across Japan, started in Tokyo, going throught Kyoto, Arashiyama, Mt Fuji & Hakone, the more rural island of Shikoku, Hiroshima, down to semi tropical Okinawa.
Assembled in a sometimes abstract or surreal collage forms, the images seek to be an alternative and personal travelogue. To show the unknown side of a country different from postcard pictures and western cliches. Made by the Anglo Japanese artist return to her monther country after a decade of absence, the pictures wish to share the strange feeling between belonging to a place, and at the same time to see it shrouded in mystery.
Through an intimate lense, it documents a travel juxaposing memory with present, and a dreamlike exploration of symbols and rituals, whether man made or natural.
